Water Scarcity

"Water Scarcity"
___________________________________________

At any given time, the country has 146 billion cubic meters of water available, yet we are treating it like a free resource… we are throwing water away by the second, and we are not managing it properly,” Environment Secretary Ramon Paje said.

Last June 27, 2012, one reporter in our discussion explained that fresh water in the world is decreasing. He even showed some pictures of people in the other countries who are encountering problems on how to get water. Water is the most abundant resource here on Earth. [1] They have discussed that fresh water is a renewable resource which means it is a natural resource that has the ability to reproduce. However the reporter said that we will gradually experience problems in fresh water because the world's supply of clean fresh water is decreasing day by day.

How important is water?
Here is a picture of a more detailed information:
How much water do we use? [2]

Basically, water is important to us. We need water in order to live. How about you? Do you drink enough water? They say that we need at least eight (8) glasses of water a day. But some of us can't really do that. Check out your water requirement by using this generator.

Causes of Water Scarcity

Over-exploitation of water

India is the largest user of groundwater resources in the world. It is estimated that approximately 230 cubic kilometers per year is used annually, this is more than a quarter of the total world consumption from this resource. [3]

I have read an article of my blockmate wherein it states that "The Polynesians are the clearest example of a society that destroyed itself by over-exploiting its own resources." [4] We could actually experience that if we continue abusing our natural resources. From abundance to extinction because of over-exploitation.

Improper Waste Disposal

Linda Tarr Kent, a reporter and editor, said that Dissolved solids from sewage, landfills or improper dumps—including organic compounds thrown into trash--can affect groundwater.

Improper waste disposal can cause the groundwater to be polluted and unclean. Furthermore, water could be unhealthy and unsafe to drink. The water we would be drinking in the years to come can be contaminated.

Some people in the world, drink dirty water which is really unsafe for consumption. They put the water in a glass, wait for the dirt to sink and drink it.

In abundance, we often forget to value things. Consciously or unconsciously, we ignore how important things are and we tend to misuse or even abuse things.
